On the day of the Wednesday Season 2 premiere, Netflix turned Atlanta’s Plaza Theatre into a full-on celebration complete with trivia, a pre-reception, and a packed screening. Fans showed up ready, and so did Joy Sunday (accompanied by Emma Myers) who returns as Bianca Barclay, the sharp-witted siren we’ve all been waiting to see again and wanting more of this season.

In our interview, Joy admits coming back to Bianca was exciting but also nerve-wracking. “I haven’t returned to a character before, so it was like, how am I going to replicate the magic?” she says. The scripts came to her bit by bit, but it became clear where Bianca was headed: straight toward the things she’s been avoiding. “She’s having to confront a lot of what she was running away from, which means embracing vulnerability.”

Joy also shares that two seasons into Wednesday, playing Bianca has impacted her both on and off-screen. She found that filming in Ireland and being far from home mirrored her character’s own journey. “It was important for me to lean on my friends and be vulnerable,” she says. Professionally, the role has been a game-changer. “Life completely changed. It’s important to share what I’ve learned and pay it forward, because we don’t always see how this industry really works.”

With this season releasing in two parts (the next 4 episodes release on September 3rd, Joy hints at the what fans should expect for the rest of season and her one-word tease? “Frantic.”
