Let’s jump into it! Marvel’s Fantastic Four is set in this super cool 1960s retrofuturistic world, and I actually love that vibe. As always, the heart of it is about Marvel’s “first family,” and I think they did a great job playing into the family dynamics throughout the film. You really feel the push and pull between saving the world and staying connected to each other and society.
This time around, they’re up against Galactus (terrifying) and the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner who is one of my favorite parts of the film.
Now, the storyline is a tad predictable and I think for Marvel they played it safe which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but the stakes are pretty low but the emotional through-line and character chemistry absolutely make up for it.

The cast is strong. with Pedro Pascal leading the pact as the charming and delightful Reed Richards. Vanessa Kirby gets to be a powerful version of a Sue Storm that we all deserved from the older versions of this film. Joseph Quinn is likable and steals a laugh, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach brings some The Bear energy, but in a good way. It was a little hard to see him as anyone but Cousin at first, though.
Overall from the film I wanted more, I wish we saw more of Mr. Fantastic’s powers, it felt a little underplayed and it would’ve been great to see more of the blossoming romance between Ben and Rachel but overall, the dynamic between the four feels real and grounded.
Final thoughts: not Marvel’s most mind-blowing film, but definitely a solid, emotional addition to the MCU. Between this, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Thunderbolts, Marvel’s been in its bag lately. If you’re going to see it, do yourself a favor and catch it in IMAX. Also, shoutout to the post-credit scenes. One of them sets up something major as we inch closer to Marvel’s next big chapter.
Pros: Stellar acting, incredible visuals, the post credit scene
Cons: Predictable
